Prof. Anuradha Seneviratne is dead

Prof. Anuradha Seneviratne is dead Professor Anuradha Seneviratne has died this morning (July 09) after a brief illness while being treated at the Kandy General Hospital. Prof. Seneviratne was the head of the Sinhalese Unit of the University of Peradeniya.

He has authored some 70 books on social culture and history of the island. He has also served at Oxford and London Universitiesthrough a Commonwealth scholarship. He received the Kala Keerthi honour in 1994 and has been honoured by the Malwathu Maha Viharaya.

Prof. Seneviratne’s remains will lie at his residence in Katugastota and final rites will be held on Saturday, July 11. Source by : ada derana

Jackson's daughter says tearful goodbye to daddy

Michael Jackson's daughter Paris delivered a tearful goodbye to her father during the memorial in Los Angeles yesterday. She said that her father was the best father one could imagine and that she loves him so much and will miss him. "Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine," the 11-year-old told the thousands of people gathered at Los Angeles' Staples Center to mourn the passing of her father. "I just want to say I love him so much." The emotion overcame her and she left the microphone to sob into her aunt Janet's arms.

Celebrities speak, sing in tribute to Michael Jackson

The stage at the Staples Center Los Angeles resembled a church sanctuary as Michael Jackson's golden casket was placed in front of it at his memorial today. Several of Jackson's older brothers served as pallbearers carrying the coffin to the stage for the live event at which stars paid tribute to the King of pop.

Children of Lankan man found dead in Australia

Australian police are probing the death of two babies belonging to a Sri Lankan man. The seven-month-old babies, Lachlan and Sophie, were found dead by their distraught father, Selvin Ariyaratnam, when he returned from work on Monday afternoon. Sri Lanka’s government has refused Canada’s request to visit a Canadian citizen who is accused of being a Tamil Tiger combatant and is being detained in a rehabilitation camp. The unnamed Canadian citizen is now waiting to see how Sri Lanka intends to deal with alleged Tiger prisoners, as the government in Colombohas yet to clarify its plans on whether detainees will be tried as terrorists, held in rehabilitation camps, or eventually released.

The 62-day saga of mercy mission ship MV Captain Ali came to an end as the cargo on board the ship was shifted to another ship, Cape Colorado, which set sail to Colombo from India.

“MV Ali, which set sail to Kolkata on Sunday, has been sold. Sangakkara praises bowlers, demands improved batting

Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara praised his bowlers after the team's dramatic 50-run win in the first Test against Pakistan on Tuesday, but called for an all-round improvement ahead of the second match in the series. Pakistan appeared on course for a routine victory when play resumed on the fourth morning, starting the day on 71-2 and needing only 97 more for victory, but the tourists slumped to 117 all out after an inspired bowling effort from the hosts.
