Radiation checks from those returning from Japan

Radiation checks from those returning from Japan The Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority has launched nuclear radiation checks for Sri Lankans who have returned from Japan. Individuals could call in at the Lanka Atomic Energy Authority office to get checked.

The authority added that steps had been taken to educate those who’ve returned from Japan regarding the service.

LTTE drug trafficker arrested in Mumbai

India’s Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad has arrested a Sri Lankan drug peddler, with suspected links to the LTTE form a hideout in Navi Mumbai. The accused Rajan Silithuriya alias Rajan alias Kartik had been picked up from his hideout in Kopar Khairane area of Navi Mumbai. Maharashtra Police said that he had been shifting places in the Mumbai suburbs for the last four years.

Tsunami hits north-eastern Japan after massive quake - BBC ( VIDEO )


A massive earthquake has hit the northeast of Japan triggering a tsunami that has caused extensive damage.

Japan's TV showed cars, ships and even buildings being swept away the Fukushima prefecture, after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake.

Officials said a wave as high as 6m (20ft) could strike the coast.

The quake struck about 250 miles (400km) from Tokyo at a depth of 20 miles, shaking building in the capital for several minutes.

The tremor at 1446 local time (0546 GMT) was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks.

Ten prostitutes, handlers arrested

Ten women who worked as prostitutes and two handlers were taken into custody after the police carried out a raid on a brothel house reportedly carried out by a Ministerial Security Division (MSD) officer in the Dummaladeniya area in Wennappuwa .
