Rameswaram (TN): Around 250 sea leeches and 118 sea horses, endangered speices, were seized and four persons trying to smggle them to Sri Lanka arrested at Mandapam, Tuesday.
The seizure was made by forest Ranger Veerabhadran while on patrolling duty, officials said.
The arrested were remanded to judicial custody by a court.
The worth of the seized items was put at more than Rs.10 lakh in the international market, they said.
Meanwhile, based on a complaint from fisheries department, police arrested eight fishermen and seized two boats for using "banned fishing nets". (PTI)
