Marriageable age limit to come down

The Government is to bring amendments to the existing marriage laws by reducing the marriageable age to 16 years from the existing 18, Additional Solicitor General, Palitha Fernando said today. However marriage of those above 16 years could be done only with the consent of their parents ASG, Fernando said at the session under the title ‘National Journalist Alliance for the Protection of Children’ held at the Hotel Mount Lavinia.

“Under the present law those above 18 years of age could get married without the consent of their parents,” he said. Source by : Daily mirror
