The former media spokesman for Tamil Tigers has requested a presidential panel that the government should either charge or release detained Tamil Tigers. Velayutham Thayanidhi, widely known as Daya Master, told the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation (LLRC) in Jaffna that the government should also establish a mechanism to inform the fate of their loved ones to relatives of the "disappeared".Nearly 10,000 former Tamil Tigers are being detained under emergency regulations for more than a year. Some LTTE suspects have been held for more than 15 years.Mr Thayanidhi stressed the importance of taking measures to uplift the living standards of the war-affected Tamil people in Vanni.
