External Affairs Ministry Spokesman, Bandula Jayasekera denied media reports that Deputy Minister Neomal Perera had apologized to Nepalese Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal over the allegedly false statement made by External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris regarding Nepal’s request for Sri Lanka’s intervention in resolving its political crisis.
Minister G.L. Peiris said in Parliament last month that Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav had asked President Mahinda Rajapakse’s help in Kathmandu to resolve the crisis prevailing in the Hamalayan nation.
However, Nepal were quick to refute claims over the alleged request while media reports emerged regarding a subsequent apology made by Deputy Minister of External Affairs, Neomal Perera citing that he had ‘pleaded’ with the Prime Minister of Nepal to forgive the Sri Lankan government.
External Affairs Ministry, Director General of Public Communication and Spokesperson Bandula Jayasekera told Ada Derana that these reports were malicious and were aimed at harming the cordial relationship the government had with the government in Nepal.
He added that the Deputy Minister had in fact met with the Prime Minister of Nepal but this issue was not discussed. Source by: ada derana
