Maximum security for World Cup participants - Ministry of Defence (press release)

This year, ICC Cricket World Cup is held in Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh and many players, ICC match officials, volunteer helpers, foreign visitors, media personnel and cricket fans will be in Sri Lanka during this tournament.

Sri Lanka , West Indies, Netherland, Zimbabwe , Australia, Kenya, Canada, New Zealand and Pakistan teams will play in Colombo, Kandy and Hambantota during this tournament and on the directions of Defence Secretary Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa a 24 hour maximum security arrangement is enforce.

Regarding the security of all players, officials and the supporters the Police will play a major role while the Army and STF will give their support. The Air Force will provide air support if an emergency arises said the Senior Deputy Inspector General.

He further added that several meetings had been held in that regard and the final meeting would be held on January 11.
